SHIBORI TECHNIQUES ON SILK OR LEATHER
Students will be working with lamb or kidskin of the highest quality. We will learn shibori techniques, arashii
and kumo and apply these techniques to leather. Leather will be wrapped on a 6″ or 8″ pvc “pole” and then be either over -dyed black or hand painted with color hue dyes while on the pole. Leather is then removed from the pole, rinsed, dried and ready to cut and sew into a purse, pillow or jacket. A jacket requires 5 hides, a pillow two and a purse one hide. Hides will be purchased from the instructor for $10 per hide. A variety of base colors will be offered.
HEAT TRANSFER TECHNIQUES ON SYNTHETIC FIBERS
An exploratory workshop in which students can work with polyester and other techno fabrics/A variety of surface design techniques will be employed. Students will paint a design of their own onto heavy paper with disperse dyes. Then through the means off a heat press the design will be transferred onto fabric through a process known as sublimation. Synthetic materials can be sheer, metallic or just any polyester material. Time is given for students to explore the different effects of this method on different types of materials.
